Will it be open thru deer season ??
Such a warm and welcoming place to take your friends. The best pie, and the friendliest staff. If you come in strangers you leave friends.
MoreAn amazing little spot to eat and an author owner so very pleasant and the food is yummy.
MoreHomemade chocolate chip and coconut cookies. Iβm already regretting not buying more!
MoreCute place however when we walked in it said to wait to be seated but nobody helped us! We ate ice cream only. This place I feel like could have been great but the place needed to be cleaned up and maybe a better way organized. Staff member was friendly.
MoreProbably the best place I've eaten in a long while! These deli sandwiches look just as good as they taste and are HUGE! Piled high with topping and meat! Cute little place and currently only doing take out (covid 19). Highly recommend the crisps and pies, well desserts in general, as they arr home made each day! The lady taking orders and making the food was very sweet and nice as well! Please visit this place and enjoy as we did!
MoreFriendly staff, vintage inviting atmosphere, clean, delicious food! Be willing to wait as the staff load is small, but well worth it. Plus a small gift shop to explore and books to read while you wait!
MoreGreat food! Awesome whitefish chowder! Look at cool gift shop while waiting for food!
MoreThis place is the best!
It's a little pricey. $10 for biscuits and gravy (with a small chunk of beef as garnish???) and we were told that we couldn't get any sides to go with it because the cook was grumpy and wasn't doing sides. Interesting way of keeping customers. Also, it was 1 pm and they hadn't switched to lunch yet.The food was good, the service was good, but for those prices I wan't to order what I want to eat, not what I'm told to eat.
MoreWonderful place to eat at very eclectic. Very nice owners, and food
I ate there twice while visiting the area. Both times the food was great. Definitely get the meat pie! The pancakes were yum with the Michigan maple syrup.
MoreFood was awesome, and the service was great! Definitely eat here when you are visiting Grand Marais!
MoreMy family rented a house for the week in town. As this is one of only 3 places to eat, we set off for a "date night" while grandma watched the kids at 8:30pm. While it is a small town and we did arrive just an hour before close, I was shocked to find we we're basically told there was nothing for use to order. Even the salad bar was being taken down. The cook was done frying for the day and was only going to make stuff on the grill. My husband was happy to have a buffalo burger and I was left with the only piece of quiche. However, I had also visited the day prior and had literally the best white fish sandwich of my life for lunch. One bad experience and one good. They also have the best pies! So I guess it's just timing. Would still go back again, just earlier.
MoreAmazing omelette! So light and fluffy and just amazing service. It was slow but it was genuine. Only so many people working at this little diner. The breakfast was filling and the baked goods were amazing. Highly suggest the molasses filled cookie. Absolutely would come here again
MoreQuaint little diner with a very nostalgic feel. The food was good and I loved the Cheerwine!
MoreI've always loved this place. One of my favorite lights to visit on Lake Michigan.
MoreGreat food!
Great place to eat when its open. Great dining car, the entrance is around back! Don't expect fast food if its busy, its a small restaurant, small team, but its usually well worth it.
MoreExcellent and has that local feel... I had the Buffalo cheese (cheddar) burger. It was perfectly cooked (med) and good taste... Awesome family ambiance.. I would definitely come back!
MoreFantastic food, and even better staff ...
Tried to visit this place in mid June around lunch time. There were less than 10 people seated in the restaurant They have a very obvious sign saying to wait to be seated. We waited for close to 15 minutes to even be acknowledged even though an employee walked by us multiple times. Once she (I believe she is the owner) finally spoke to us, it was just flat out we could only be served if we would order pizza. We had a group of 9. We did not want pizza, so we left.2 days later, my husband went back alone, and once again he was not acknowledged or seated for 10+ minutes. I'm not sure if the food is good - the menu sounded good. Service was non-existent. I'm not sure why they would have a restaurant if they don't want customers.
MoreSimply the best breakfast and lunch! They have an eclectic gift shop and can make a cappuccino too. I love it.
MoreServer was great, cook would never survive in a real restaurant. Skip the shop upstairs. Food was... Okay.
MoreWhat a fun diner! Our visit was stellar from the moment I we walked in the diner. Our day began with car troubles, but everyone here made us forget our troubles. Fun decor, super friendly staff (Jenna), and yummy food. And, gosh, I think I bought a house in McMillan! Thank you, from Bonnie & Frank and Rose & Jane!
MoreA good place to eat with some cool stuff for sale. All of the food appeared to be hand made, bread, jelly, etc... the only problem was there was only 1 waitress and they still weren't serving lunch at 2 PM.
MoreLoved this little deli! Food was good and liked the atmosphere! Friendly and helpful staff! Recommend a stop here!
MoreStopped in for a bite to eat and was not disappointed, the service was great and the food was amazing. The gift shop was super cute as well!
MoreThese guys take a lot of pains to serve some delicious dishes, made fresh and fabulous.
MoreExcellent sandwich π₯ͺβΊοΈ
Need more than 5 stars!Outstanding dining options ...
Great Reubens
Ok place to eat, little cluttered for a diner. Be prepared to wait a while for your food.
MoreA classic diner with an eclectic menu. What's available changes every day, so check the chalk board as you enter. The first day we visited I had the spicy chicken and my wife a burger, both excellent. A few days later neither was on the menu and we tried two different types of frittatas. Also very good. Desserts are good too, especially the pie.Seating is pretty limited and food is prepared from scratch so service isn't always fast (okay, the frittatas are a different case since they were pre-made). Relax and enjoy the decorations or check out the upstairs for gifts and crafts. They're open for breakfast and lunch, closing at 4. They're also known for occasionally taking the day off. In a town like Grand Marais I can't blame them.
MoreAll the food is great. The pizza is surprisingly good, and deserts are to die for. Lots of interesting soda as well.
MoreReally quirky and fun vibe. Great artisan food. Nice owner and waitress. Only a few tables so not great for groups over 5.
MoreAwesome place!! Very friendly and nice staff in a really cool cabin/diner feel with very neat gifts available to purchase as well. Not to mention delicious food! Ordered a pizza and it was amazing. Definitely would recommend to everyone! :)
MoreGreat handmade food, fresh! The wait was long just it did not matter because we were catching up with friends. I would recommend this spot.
MoreGood food and a nice little gift shop
Amazing bison burger. Lovely staff. High focus on Covid safety!
Yes, I do agree, the folks here are friendly and salt-of-the-earth people, and the food is nicely hand-crafted. However, DO NOT EVER make any special requests, such as gravy to moisten the tasty but dry meat pie...you will be met with a gaze of indifference and a claim that, "Our cook only does gravy per order, and there is no extra. How about you try some ketchup on it." What the .....! Aside from the dried goods on your plate, there are many intriguing and unique trinkets for sale upstairs.
MoreWonderful as usual!
3 years ago we celebrated our 35th Anniversary in Grand Marais. The West Bay Diner was a great part of our vacation. The Whitefish Omelet breakfast made the day. Just as important, we got to meet a great Michigan author and diner owner, Ellen Airgood! Her 'South of Superior" and two middle-reader gems from Penguin Random House remain the "house favorites" at our store "The Mitten Word Bookshop" in Marshall, MI. Ellen and her husband returned the favor as the stars of the Grand Opening of our store last year! Nice! Grab a copy of her books with breakfast, or lunch (or just as good, get them in Marshall, MI)!
MoreGreat service, great food, fun setting!
Absolutely Amazing. the food was great. the attention to detail in the interior and exterior was to perfection. The Service was very friendly, The ingredients were fresh, the food was hot, the fish was fresh and fried to a flakey perfection. best fish in my short 27 years of life. The staff treated my son as if he was a part of the family!! people may complain about the short wait time, but honestly if the restaurant is busy and you have a few staff making the experience great, learn to be patient and enjoy and be grateful for such kind people making great food, fantastic service!!! Thanks for making our first trip to your beautiful establishment a time to remember for years.
More13$ for a hotdog, and 13$ for a burger this doesn't include a side or toppings thats extra
MoreVery quaint little dinner with really good food.
Delicious breakfast this morning! Fantastic and friendly service. Nice little gift shop. Great experience all around. Very happy we stopped. Also, since we looked at the other reviews..... the wait on the food is a necessary part of the delicious food, not an annoyance!!
MoreWow! Asked if I could have my Gravy on side was told no! Waitress said to order something else! I walked over to Menu board and Could hear cook Complaining that I should eat elsewhere if I had a problem about Gravy on side! No Problem now We left!! Rude place!!! Excuse me That I can't have the Dairy in gravy you could have put on side! Not nice!!ππ
MoreMy family has been coming here for years! A wonderful home cooked meal, fantastic pies, and a great place to grab ice cream on a rainy day. There is a beautiful view of the bay if you sit in the front diner or enjoy your treats on the porch!
MoreI love this place. Food is great. It can be a bit of a wait but i don't mind. And the menu is ever changing. The gift shop upstairs ia very nice too
